10 Things Brides Regret Not Doing on Their Wedding Day

(From a wedding photographer who’s seen it all 🤍)
Your wedding day goes by faster than you can imagine. It’s full of emotion, movement, and moments you’ll wish you could relive over and over again.
After photographing multiple weddings, there are a few things I hear brides say again and again after the day is over—little things they wish they had done differently.
If you’re currently planning your wedding, this is for you.

1. Not Leaving Enough Time for Photos
This is the biggest one.
When your timeline is too tight, everything starts to feel rushed—and that takes away from the experience and your photos.
What to do instead:
Build in buffer time. Give yourself space to breathe, to be present, and to actually enjoy each part of your day.
2. Not Understanding (or Skipping) a First Look
A lot of couples skip a first look because they think it will take away from the aisle moment—but most are surprised by how meaningful it actually is.
Why it matters:
It calms your nerves
Gives you a private moment together
Allows more time for photos earlier in the day
Truthfully: it often becomes one of the most emotional moments of the entire day.
3. Missing Sunset Photos
Golden hour is everything in photography.
It’s that soft, glowy, romantic light you see in dreamy wedding galleries—and it only lasts about 10–15 minutes.
What to do instead:
Step away from your reception for just a few minutes. It’s always worth it.
4. Forgetting to Be Present
So many brides say, “It all felt like a blur.”
Between the timeline, guests, and everything happening—you can accidentally rush through your own day.
What to do instead:
Pause. Take it in. Hold your partner’s hand for a moment longer. Breathe.
Those are the moments you’ll remember most.
5. Not Eating Enough (or at All)
It sounds simple—but it happens all the time.
Brides get busy, overwhelmed, or nervous and forget to eat… which leads to low energy and added stress.
What to do instead:
Schedule time to eat. Even if it’s quick—your body will thank you.
6. Not Hiring Vendors They Truly Connect With
Your vendors are with you all day. Energy matters.
If you don’t feel comfortable around them, you’ll feel it.
What to do instead:
Choose people you trust, feel calm around, and genuinely connect with—not just based on price.
7. Skipping the Little Details
Things like handwritten vows, a quiet moment together, or a meaningful item often get overlooked.
What to do instead:
Incorporate personal touches. These are the things that make your wedding feel like you.
8. Not Planning for Family Photos Properly
Family photos can quickly become chaotic without a plan.
What to do instead:
Have a list ready ahead of time so everything runs smoothly and quickly.
9. Not Trusting the Process
Trying to control every little detail on the day can take away from the experience.
What to do instead:
Trust your vendors. Trust your plan. Let go a little and just be present.
10. Not Taking a Moment Alone Together
The entire day goes by surrounded by people—but very little time is just the two of you.
What to do instead:
Take 5–10 minutes alone. No cameras, no guests—just you two soaking it in.
